About the Designer
Mario Buccellati was born in Ancona, Italy in 1891. It was in 1919 that he decided to open up his first jewelry store on Largo Santa Margherita in Milan. By 1954, with the help of his son, Luca, Mario Buccellati opened up two stores in New York City. One of which was located on Fifth Avenue. His other son, Gianmaria, founded the International Gemology Institute (IGI) with a group of professional colleagues. He would remain president of the institution for the next 25 years. In 1979, Gianmaria confirmed his status among the most world-renowned jewelers in the world, when he opened up his flagship store on Place Vandome in Paris, France.
Keeping tradition alive, the Buccellati brand remains true to its origins by designing magnificent 18K gold jewelry, using ancient Italian goldsmithing techniques.
