History of Elizabeth Locke Jewelry
Since she was a little girl, Elizabeth Locke had an undeniable fascination with vintage and antique jewelry of the Etruscans, Greeks and Romans. She keeps these traditional styles in mind when creating her neo-classical hand-made masterpieces. She traces this obsession with European relics back to age 11 when her father first took her to Italy. Locke was mesmerized by the sphinxes, caryatids, and graceful goddesses.
It was on that trip that Elizabeth Locke set her mind on moving to Italy someday and mastering the language. She kept both of those promises to herself by graduating with her degree in Italian Literature from the University of Florence and later running her very first business in Italy.
She continued to fly all around the world in search of the perfect piece of history to later emulate in her designs. She frequents European markets, auctions and antique shows in an adventure that she calls the “continual treasure hunt.” Locke will discover an old button or brooch and transform it into inspiration for a pendant or pair of cufflinks with the help of 35 Thai goldsmiths who are devoted to bringing her ideas to life.
Once she came back and settled in the United States, she became an editor for the Town and Country magazine where she published a segment about shopping in Bangkok. This article turned out to be life-changing and perpetuated her to earning her gemology degree to aid in the rest of her jewelry-making career. In 1998, Elizabeth Locke Jewels was established. The company was fueled by a blend of visual creativity and an admiration of European antiques.
Today, the company utilizes hammered 19K yellow gold for a bold and vibrant look against the skin. Elizabeth Locke is known for her versatile earring pendants, in which a pair of simple hoops can be adorned with interchangeable charms decorated with gemstones, Venetian Glass intaglios, or remarkable engravings and details. She also has a wide array of colorful intaglios on necklace enhancers, rings, and bracelets! One of her most popular collections showcases the Queen Bee engravings that bestows a sense of proud feminism among those who wear it.
