Smart Strap by Montblanc Adds Tech to Your Wrist

If you’re a timepiece aficionado who’d like to stay relevant, but doesn’t want to trade in your favorite watch for Apple’s latest tech fad, Montblanc has your solution. The company has unveiled a new e-Strap which can be added to your existing watch, instantly transforming it into a “Smart Watch.”

The strap, which will retail for $300, features an OLED touchscreen which sits underneath your wrist. Using Bluetooth technology, the strap syncs to your smartphone and vibrates whenever you get a new alert- a text, email, or social media notification, for example. In addition, the strap will also function as a fitness tracker which will work in tandem with an included smartphone app. With just a tap of your finger, the e-Strap also plays music, takes pictures, and tracks your phone if you lose it.

For now, the e-Strap is designed specifically to fit 42 or 43mm watches from Montblanc’s Timewalker collection, but it should fit on any watch with similar spacing. A smart watch strap is a great alternative to a whole new smart watch, and as with all new and exciting tech gadgets, future generations will likely work through the initial kinks. Still, this is a promising step in the right direction for the watch industry, proving that they refuse to be cast aside by wearable technology. Tradition is alive and well, but it’s getting a great new facelift.
